You can configure your AOL email account in your Microsoft Outlook 2010 to send / receive emails. It will help you easily configure Microsoft Outlook for your AOL email account.
Instructions:
Open Outlook from your desktop shortcut or from the Start button> All Programs. Click the File tab and point to Information. You will see your existing account information under Information. To set up a new AOL email account, click Add Account. This will take you to the Add New Account window. In the Name field, enter your name.
Enter a valid AOL email address in the Email address box and a password in the Password field. Click the button next to Manually configure server settings or additional server types and press the Next button. Click the Internet E-mail button and press Next. When in Internet Email Settings, enter your name and email address in User Information.
Under Server Information, click to select IMAP from the drop-down arrow next to Account Type and fill in the incoming and outgoing server information. Type ‘imap.aol.com’ (without quotes) in the Incoming mail server box, while ‘smtp.aol.com’ in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box. Under Login Information, enter your name and email address in the appropriate boxes.
Check the Remember password box. Click the More Settings button. Highlight the Outgoing Server tab and check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Click on the Advanced tab and enter ‘587’ in the Outgoing server (SMTP) box. Click on the OK button. You will return to the Add New Account window. If you want to test your settings before exiting the window, click the Test Account Settings button.
Microsoft Outlook will test your AOL account settings and respond accordingly. If the test is successful, you will see a congratulatory message. Click the OK button and then Next and then Finish to save the changes and exit the Add New Account window. If the test returns an error message, click the OK button and then return to review the settings.
In case you find spelling or configuration errors, please correct them. It is mandatory to write your email address, password and information of the incoming and outgoing server, etc. correctly. Also check the port number of the SMTP server. In case you have lost or forgotten your password, please contact AOL and request it.
Additional Information:
If you are running Microsoft Outlook setup for the first time, the automatic wizard will appear and ask you to set up your email account. AOL Mail also supports a POP3 account.
