Goombas were those adorable fungus pests that roamed many Mario levels back in the day and drove you crazy when you had to press the jump button at light speed to avoid getting bitten on the butt! They showed up in the worst of places and never seemed to leave you alone.

Like critics of the entire Mario franchise, they claim that Mario is old and needs new touches. They claim that it will never be compared to newer games and will never outsell or even compare.

The claims put forth by these critics will claim that Mario has never outsold any of these newer games and never will. Mario can’t sell more games if he simply compares the numbers from the early days of the console to the numbers for today’s games. These games today have larger production runs, more money behind them and take less time to pump and command a higher price tag.

The Mario series has stood the test of time, and sometimes critics will throw criticism at a subject when they don’t know anything about it, and usually it’s because they don’t understand it at all.

Is there a way to give them a crash course in Mario-ology 101?

There are many ways a person can learn about or even experience the Mario phenomenon. You can research it on the internet, you can buy old consoles and games locally or on the internet, or you can just take a moment and search for a “Mario fan site” and browse it.

What does a Mario fansite have?

Fan sites have original content based on the Mario world and lore. Original content is constantly updated, produced, and distributed through these sites. Fans trying to get someone acquainted with Mario or old fans looking to reconnect with an old childhood friend would do better to find one of these sites and just explore it.

Fan sites produce unique content not often seen in major studio games. While critics would say that these games are not good because the graphics are bad and the game is barely retro, the game is retro because that is what people enjoy. They enjoy a simple and fun trip down memory lane.
