Would you like to avoid some of the mistakes other parents make when potty training a child?

This article will show you how to avoid some of those pit drops.

It’s easy to approach potty training with fear and trepidation, especially if your acquaintances are bombarding you with all their bad stories.

Step 1

Make the decision to approach potty training with confidence. You can do it. Fear becomes fear and going into potty training with fear will produce this in your child.

Step 2

Introduce your child to the potty between 12 and 18 months. Not to do anything other than to make it part of everyday life.

Step 3

Planning ahead will make potty training easier. Look at your journal and select a date when you will begin full potty training. This should not be at a time when changes or exciting things are going to happen.

stage 4

Time how long it takes for a drink to pass through your child. Send or walk your child to the potty or bathroom this many minutes after taking a big drink. This will prevent many accidents.

step 5

Explain to your child exactly what is expected of him. Use simple language and don’t get mad when he has accidents.

step 6

Be consistent with the words you use and the instructions you give. Make sure everyone involved with your child does and says the same, including any child care providers you have.

step 7

Be consistent in the actions you take. It can be very confusing if you put your child in his underwear when he is home and in diapers the rest of the time.

step 8

Remind your child to go to the bathroom at regular intervals. Children get caught up in what they are doing and stop going to the bathroom until it is too late.

step 9

Prepare well for any trips you are going to take to the mall or other places. As soon as you arrive make sure you know where the bathroom is located. Remember that a child cannot hold urine for more than a minute or even less.

step 10

Your child will have relapsed at some point. Try to minimize any changes in your child’s or family’s life as much as possible, especially in the early stages of potty training.

To encourage your child on his potty training journey, it may help to use a potty training chart and some special stickers.
