Sony Ericsson has introduced the smallest touch-sensitive smartphone ever! The X10 Mini measures in at a microscopic 83 x 60 x 16mm and has an absolute featherweight of 88 grams. The phone is a mini me equivalent to the Xperia X10 and features similar technology on a (smaller scale, of course); it runs a reevaluated version of TimeScape and benefits from the Android 1.6 operating system which also comes with an accelerometer for automatic rotation.
The phone has been modeled on the Xperia X10; runs a lighter version of Android and offers a part of the TimeScape technology found in its big brother (the Xperia X10), this allows you to manage your social media accounts and receive status update alerts and tweets from Facebook and Twitter respectively . The device comes in a range of colors including lime green and pink, along with the basic black, white and silver. Its cute rounded design gives it a real charm and makes you want to play with it more, once you pick it up, it’s hard to put it down, it’s like cuddling a kitten! The 2.55-inch QVGA display is vivid and vibrant, comfortably capable of reproducing up to 16.7 million colors and featuring the same four-corner customization feature that is trademarked on the X10, this feature allows you to configure your favorite apps or more used in the corners of the Screen for quick access at hand.
Sony Ericsson has impressively incorporated a 5 megapixel digital camera for the happy snap and given it video recording capabilities to boot. The camera has autofocus for lens focus and geotagging so you can add information about where the photo was taken. There are location services with turn-by-turn navigation with WisePilot, Google Maps and a-GPS so you won’t have any trouble finding your way. With Android, you get the obvious services you’d expect from Google, like the Android Market for additional apps and YouTube support.
The X10 Mini has ExchangeActiveSynch and full email integration so you can sync your phone with personal or business inboxes, meaning you’re always a finger’s breadth away from your inbox no matter where you are. With other obvious things like the option of conversations for your SMS messages and instant messages, Sony Ericsson has made sure not to skimp on giving you plenty of options when it comes to communication.
As for entertainment, Sony Ericsson has equipped this little device with an FM radio, 3D games and streaming video. The music player is brilliant and manages to play various types of files including mp3, the sound clarity is very good and the bass is deep and smooth, this quality can be transmitted through the phone’s built-in speakers or through the phone’s audio jack. 3.5mm into its own headphones and the video player does a good job of playing videos at a falling frame rate.
Overall the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini is a lovable kitty giving you the full functionality of a smartphone with great looking entertainment and messaging features, the TimeScape feature translates well to the smaller phone and the overall look of the phone is attractive and charming, there are lots of accessories. accessories for customization not to mention the interchangeable case. The X10 Mini will charm anyone who looks at it, my general feeling is that it will appeal to younger people and women more than business users or mature users.
