The Liberal and National Parties (LNP) make up Australia’s coalition government and are the worst of all time when it comes to dealing with the most vulnerable. The tragedy of what is happening to older people as a result of their squeezing every dollar out of the system is a crime against humanity. Attending the hearings at the Royal Commission was anything but pleasant, as family members highlighted story after story of tragedy and death.

The LNP is only interested in money. Politicians care little for the weak and often the sick. But it is also the fault of family members who place them in homes without consideration and without care.

Some nursing homes where they end up allow $ 6 a day for food and have a minimal number of staff. The people under your supervision are allotted only a certain period of time for things like basic care. That includes showers, often just one a week, incontinence cleaning, and other things. Some patients lie in urine and fecal matter for hours.

The rapid decline in morale and loss of meaning in their lives means that they deteriorate rapidly, and the result is often premature death. The tears mixed with these horror stories as the relatives tell them, speak to another side of this tragedy.

There is a lot wrong with the way we care for older Australians and putting them in situations that stray from their normality is horrible. Who leaves his home and everything he loves and his environment and does not feel nostalgia. The overwhelming despair and neglect they suffer is unimaginable. The system has failed them.

While we hear many of the grievances and horror stories of suffering, the only solutions are to reverse the trend and provide better home care, better protect your assets from theft, and better serve your needs.

It is understood that not everyone in this situation can stay at home, but should then be able to be housed in a suitable hospital with decent care, food and care. If they are weak and suffer, that is the only reasonable place for them. So is there another way?

My other suggestion about caring for the elderly is to allow them to contribute to society in a positive way. That means not putting limits on their ability to work, encouraging them to go to gyms and other facilities to maintain a healthier lifestyle, and helping them socialize and entertain their friends from time to time. It will all add to your self-esteem and dignity. Loneliness is another problem that, therefore, can be overcome with this type of activity.
