In Australia, windsurfing activities are largely concentrated in the western part of Australia. This is mainly because Western Australia has a 12,000 kilometer coastline that offers some of the best conditions for windsurfing. One of the main windsurfing spots in Australia is Lancelin. Located north of Perth, Lancelin is a small fishing village offering perfect conditions: flat waters along with reefs. Lancelin’s biggest advantage is that it offers suitable windsurfing conditions for both perfect amateurs and more experienced surfers. However, Lancelin’s biggest claim to fame is its highly renowned marathon windsurfing: the Lancelin Ocean Classic. This marathon is Australia’s largest windsurfing event and is highly anticipated by windsurfers from around the world. Lancelin also hosts various jumping and wave events.
Another famous spot for windsurfing in Australia is the Margaret River, south of Perth. However, unlike Lancelin, which offers windsurfing conditions suitable for all levels of windsurfers, Margaret River is for expert windsurfers only.
Another windsurfing destination in Perth is the town of Geraldton. Coronation Beach, located north of Geraldton, is the most popular windsurfing spot here. Surfers can practice jumps and waves at Coronation Beach.
As you drive from Lancelin to Geraldton, there is another great windsurfing town: Cervantes. This town also attracts several windsurfers every year and is a good place to practice jumping. The combination of Cervantes and Jurien Bay is quite popular with windsurfers.
Although Western Australia dominates the windsurfing scene, the New South Wales region also has some great windsurfing spots. One of them is Botany Bay, near Sydney, which offers windsurfing in calm waters. Additionally, the Narrabeen Lakes offer excellent beginner windsurfing conditions with their shallow waters.
There are a large number of windsurfing clubs in Australia, such as the Geraldton Windsurfing Club, which help surfers of all levels to practice windsurfing, as well as interact with other windsurfers.

The Australian windsurfing calendar is always packed with windsurfing events. There are winter and summer windsurfing series that are made up of a single or a multitude of forms of windsurfing such as racing, slalom, freestyle and wave surfing. Some of the major events that can be mentioned are the Australian Longboard Festival, the Lancelin Ocean Classic, etc.
