Every aspect of the modeling world has its pros and cons, the same can be said for teen modeling agencies. The downsides of using an agency are few and far between, but they still need to be mentioned to put the whole thing in context. Let’s take a look at the cons before we jump on the bandwagon of benefits.

The disadvantages

As already mentioned, the disadvantages of modeling agencies are just a few, they include;

1) Being bound by a contract. This means that the model must follow the instructions established by the agency and cannot go to every session or job that she wants. Breach of a contract may lead to legal action against the model.

2) Payment of commission to the agency. Teen modeling agencies make money by charging a certain percentage of commission on all work done. Commission percentages differ from agency to agency and from model to model.

3) There is no guarantee of modeling works. Although agencies may later get you a modeling job, they cannot guarantee it.

How do agencies benefit their models?

1) Security. Agencies go to great lengths to ensure that their models are safe and that the shoot is not illegitimate. In the case of teen models, these safety benefits need to be doubled. Because teens are so eager to further their careers, they are often drawn into situations that force them to do pornographic or nude work. Teen modeling agencies will make sure that teen models don’t fall for these traps.

2) More exposure. Getting exposure is the only way a model will make it in this industry. An agency provides exactly that. Agency clients see a lot of portfolios looking for models, and even if you’re not a good fit for a specific job, you’ll be remembered for a future one.

3) Higher paying jobs. Due to their good reputation, agencies are allowed to charge more for modeling jobs; resulting in better pay for models. Although this directly influences the model, the agency is the one that ensures this. The agency should have a backup model available in case the chosen one fails or falls ill. Additional backups cost teen modeling agencies more, but build their reputation.

4) Legal coverage. When you sign a contract with an agency they employ as a worker and that includes legal coverage while you work for them. This means that if something goes wrong in a session, the contract between you and the agency will protect you from any legal issues suggested by the client.

5) Travel and treatment. The best benefit any teen can get from working with an agency is the travel and treatment benefits. Agencies often provide styling and beauty equipment as part of the shoot. This means beautiful hair and makeup and sometimes even manicures and pedicures for the models. Travel abroad can be an added benefit attached to teen modeling agencies.
