Have you noticed that many prayer requests are for health issues in our churches? God wants his people to be healthy in all aspects: spiritually, mentally, and physically. The following are seven Christian healing principles that are essential to restoring and maintaining good health.

1. Seek Jesus. In most cases of healing in the Bible, the sick person went directly to Jesus to be healed or someone else sought him out on their behalf. Two blind men even followed Jesus into the house where he was staying, crying out for him to heal them! A woman with an issue of blood struggled through the crowd just to touch the hem of her cloak, confident that by doing so she would heal her. If she needs healing, how often does she seek Jesus through prayer? Are you recognizing it as you go about your daily life? Don’t leave your healing to chance; stick to the one that can heal you like glue.

2. Exercise your faith. Jesus always healed in response to faith. In the story of the two blind men (Matthew 9:27-30), Jesus asked them, “Do you believe that I can do this?” When they replied that they believed, he said, “According to your faith be it unto you.” Then he touched their eyes and healed them. If he has trouble believing that Jesus can heal him, then pray, “Lord, help my unbelief!” Also, read healing stories in the bible to strengthen your faith.

3. Eat wisely. The Bible warns us that everything that man sows, he reaps. It is unexpected to expect good health and healing if you engage in health-destroying habits, such as eating a regular diet of junk/fast food. The food you eat literally becomes your flesh, blood, and bones. Daniel chapter 1 is a great example of this fact. In the story, Daniel purposed in his heart not to eat the rich food of the king, but he only asked for vegetables and water. He then requested that his appearance be examined after 10 days.

When Daniel was re-examined, it was found that he looked better and healthier compared to those who ate the rich food. While you don’t need to live exclusively on vegetables and water, your goal should be a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein to provide your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs for energy and health.

4. Exercise diligently. Proverbs 21:25 says, “He who is negligent in his work is the brother of the great destroyer.” He considers taking care of his health as part of his job. He tries to be a good steward of his God-given body by exercising regularly. Jesus and his disciples had no choice but to walk wherever they wanted to go. Our ancestors had no choice either: if they didn’t hunt or gather food, they didn’t eat. However, he has a choice: he can be diligent with exercise or live in idleness. But with every choice you sow, there will come a harvest; please he choose wisely.

5. Watch your words. Are you talking life or death to yourself? If you constantly talk about how sick you are, all you do is discourage yourself and encourage “illness.” Instead, go for it and talk like you’re already cured. Encourage others and strive to be agreeable in your dealings with them. Proverbs 16:23-24 advises:

The wise man’s heart teaches his mouth,

And add learning to his lips.

Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,

Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

6. Laugh often. The wisdom of Proverbs says: “A cheerful heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” Do you know what is the best to laugh? Your problems! After all, there is nothing too difficult for God. So when you’re faced with a problem, say, “God, I don’t know what you’re going to do about it, but I can’t wait to see how you’re going to get me out of this!” Buy a clean joke book or watch comedy shows and movies you like. Cultivate the ability to laugh at yourself and your own mistakes. Strive to fill your heart with laughter every day.

7. Walk in obedience. Making sure you are always walking in step with God’s will for your life is the best health insurance policy! Take seriously the following scripture:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

And do not lean on your own understanding;

Acknowledge him in all your ways,

And He will make your paths straight.

Don’t be wise in your own opinion;

Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

It will be health for your flesh,

And strength to your bones.

May you practice each of these 7 principles and reap a bountiful harvest of health and healing!
